Love the radio feel of this one! Like a story!

SuperCat904 responds:

I am glad that I gave you these feelings!

You know, I love me some jazz. Actually did a short stint in a jazz band, before bone cancer took down our bassist...sigh...loved that guy. He knew SO MUCH about theory, and was just all round friendly. I'd have never branched out as much as I did had I not met him.

You gots you some serious jazz chops here. Only real comment I can make is...if an instrument is going to be fake, flaunt the fakeness. One thing I've always taken issue with is midi-trumpets. They sound nothing like trumpets! Not your fault, just a personal pet-peeve. Like, when you're a little kid and you get to play with a synthesizer, and you're messing with the instruments, and the harpsichord and xylophone sound so spot-on...and then, you hit the trumpets...and they sound exactly like they did on NES games. Seriously, MIDI-sample-people: Sample a real damn trumpet already!!!

...end rant.

Loved your composition.

TaintedLogic responds:

Woah, can't believe I never responded to this! Thanks so much for the review, Ceevro. Jazz is definitely a "branch-out" genre for me, haha. And I'm with you 100% on the trumpets. Cheers! :)

Hmmm...normally I don't like synthetic pads...but this is actually very melodic and lyrical, well composed, and relaxing. I feel like its incomplete, though. This is a wonderful opening that needs to work its way into a chorus and hook...

I'd suggest you revisit this. Try picking a spot and hitting a completely different chord...see where it takes you, and how you can get back to this beautiful melody!

If you need some help, you know where to find me!

SuperCat904 responds:

Thank you for your feedback! It is a great honor for me to see a comment on my work from a person I look up to.

Sweet podcast! I didn't know you did these! This is great to listen to while I'm working!

SkankyMojo responds:

Cheers man that means a lot. 🙏

Loving the organic sound! Very much reminds me of the way I record...grab anything in the room that makes a sound and bang it! Just straight-up, pleasant vibes!

PegasuTV responds:

I do try to experiment so I'll get some unique stuff, but that's also due to me still being a dumb producion baby learning, I used to be just the guy that screamed in front of a band hahaha.

You have a wonderful voice! Much cleaner than I could do it!

Now, I almost feel that this needs a bit of compression overall, and your low end sounds empty (though I'm listening on computer speakers at the moment). If you've got some bass going on in there, it's completely left out on less bass-rich speakers. Try boosting mids of your bass to fill out the soundscape.

But it's so nice to hear someone playing old-style. Reminds me of 50's sock-hop tunes! Very nice!

verbicidemusic responds:

I definitely see what you're saying about the bass tones. I boosted the mids excessively to no avail. I think the tone itself is inherently bad, I may toy with it some more and reupload if I get something good going. As far as my influences go, I pull a lot from 80s post-punk and dream pop a la the Smiths or Cocteau Twins, but I do listen to a lot of old school pop like the Beach Boys and the likes, so I guess it makes a wierd Gothicy yet poppy combo, haha. Glad you enjoyed it though.

Well. If I win my round...I have going against you to look forward to.

What could possibly go wrong?

bassfiddlejones responds:

Mwahaha

I think W-in-K has the right of it. I'd kill the sidechain altogether, myself. But you've got a wonderful vibe going on in this!

Good luck in the competition!

larrynachos responds:

I thought a hard sidechain was like a lofi staple or something lol. I wouldn't ditch it altogether, but do you think I shouldn't have chained the kick AND snare?

Thanks for the review!

Diggin' the crap out of that groove! Now I have to buy a bass guitar. YOU SEE WHAT YOU MADE ME DO?

Good luck in the competition!

Haha! Loved it! So very not my style...kinda comparing apples to wildebeest, methinks.

But I don't envy the judges who have to decide who does it better!

I'd love to collab with you when the competitions are over!

Preds responds:

Thank you! Glad you love it ^^

Best of luck in NGADM :)

Yeah we should, its going to be interesting to hear your style with mine!
